DOWNTOWN FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2008

Performers will roam and perform throughout the downtown four-block core; between Franklin and Columbia Streets and between Legion Way and State Ave. If the weather becomes inclement, the following are business locations for performers:

*The Olympian Hotel Lobby: 116 Legion Way E

*Selden’s Furniture: 220 Legion Way E

*Ken Schoenfeld Furniture: Capital and 4th Ave
Specific hours: Saturday 9am – 5:30pm and Sunday 11am-4pm

*Bonaventure LOBBY: 116 - 5th Avenue

*Reflections Gallery: 422 Capitol Way

The Downtown for the Holidays parade was a huge success! The parade was the largest in the history of Downtown for the Holidays. There was also a strong turnout of attendees.

Don’t forget the holiday events in December! The PBIA and the Olympia Downtown Association will be providing FREE E-Trolley rides during the weekends! Also every weekend until the 21st of December you can visit Santa and enjoy carolers and performances in the downtown core. Funding for the expanded holiday schedule provided by the Parking Business Improvement Area (PBIA).

Santa, family and/or pet photos are available at Studio Four 18 at 418 Washington Street.

The following schedule is for Santa and the E-Trolley rides:
December 6 and 7, Noon to 4 pm
December 13 and 14, Noon to 4 pm
December 20 and 21, Noon to 4 pm

Carolers and live performances will enhance the weekend activities on street corners and at local businesses.

Also, look for the holiday snowflakes that are lighting up downtown! Funding for the new LED decorations made possible through the Parking Business Improvement Area (PBIA) with support of City of Olympia Public Works Rick Knostman and crew with installation.

Simple Cloth - a new cloth diaper and natural parenting boutique - will be hosting a grand opening celebration on Sunday, December 7th from 12 to 4 pm. Door prizes will be raffled off each hour on the hour, compliments of baby brands such as Knickernappies, Aden and Anais, and Grandma El’s. Each attendee will receive free gifts and coupons from local merchants and complimentary refreshments will be provided.

“As Clouds Gather” Art Opening December 5th
November 20, 2008 - Olympia, WA - Announcing As Clouds Gather, an art opening featuring up-and-coming artists from The Evergreen State College’s Student Originated Studies (SOS) Visual Arts Program. The exhibition is Friday, December 5th from 6 pm until 10 pm, featuring paintings, photography, drawings, printmaking and other mediums. The location is The Loft on Cherry (formerly K Records) 525 Cherry St. SE, Olympia, WA 98501. Refreshments will be provided and live bands will perform from 8 pm until 10 pm. The public is invited to attend.

Olympia is going green for Downtown for the Holidays 2008! Santa will be leading the parade on Sunday November 30th in an Electric Trolley (E-Trolley). The parade is 75 percent plus on foot, The Dash is available, and biking and walking are other environmentally friendly ways to get to the parade. The City of Olympia is offering a monthly drawing for commuters who ride the bus 60 percent of their total commute trips. Keep track of your trips on their general registration form, which you can find at http://www.ci.olympia.wa.us/community/transportation/commuter/bus.htm.

The parade honoree is Olympia Fire Department Battalion Chief Frank Spickelmire. The parade route starts at B Street by the Farmers Market and continues up Capitol Way ending at Sylvester Park for a spectacular tree lighting ceremony. Don’t miss it! There is something for everyone!
