<h2>Olympia Arbor Day &#8211; Celebrate at Lions Park!</h2>

<p>Olympia Arbor Day will be held Saturday, May 21, 10 am to 11 am at Lions Park (800 Wilson St SE). The festivities will take place on the Wilson Street side of the park near the picnic shelter. This year’s event will highlight Olympia’s 18th year as a Tree City USA, the 2011 Jay Butt’s Friends of Trees Award recipient and the Puget Sound Regional Tree Climbing Competition. The celebration will include:</p>
<p>•The Washington State Department of Natural Resources recognizing Olympia with the Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA Award and Growth Award!</p>
<div>•Presentation of the 2011 Jay Butts Friends of Trees Award to the Eastside Neighborhood Association, recognizing their contributions towards the development of a Legion Way Stewardship Plan.</div>
<p>•The opportunity to take home a free seedling for planting.</p>
<p>•The planting of a new shade tree for Lions Park.</p>
<p>After the celebration, attendees can enjoy watching the climbing competition. The best professional tree-climbers in the Pacific Northwest will be battling it out in five exciting events, competing for prestige, prizes and a slot in the international competition.</p>

<p>The Olympia Police Department will be presenting a free one-hour  workshop on how to handle shoplifting and unwanted behavior in your  place of business. Topics will include how to minimize, approach and  report shoplifting. How to get compliance from a suspected shoplifter.  Also, how to handle a patron who may not be stealing, but is disrupting  business. A question and answer session will be included. This should be  an outstanding workshop that provides you with quality information!</p>

<p>Presenter George Sharp, the new Executive Director for the Olympia-Lacey-Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau, will showcase ideas on how to benefit from major events. He has experimented with more than 100 ways to promote business and downtowns and will share what works and what doesn&#8217;t, sparing you the experience of trial and error.</p>
<p>Sharp secret shopped several events and businesses last year in preparation for applying for his position. He will share his experience on which businesses were successful and ideas for improvement (no names will be included).</p>
